About QCP
The Queen City Promise is a scholarship program whose mission is to provide scholarships to Plainfield Public School graduates in their pursuit of a postsecondary public education in the State of New Jersey. Plainfield is known as “The Queen City.”
The Queen City Promise is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization, in Plainfield, New Jersey, established in 2019. Beginning in 2023, QCP began awarding scholarships to eligible applicants who are enrolled in a public post-secondary institution in the State of New Jersey – an vocational/technical training programs, or two- or four-year college or university at a public post-secondary institution.

Why offer this program to the Plainfield Public School District (PPSD) graduates?
Post-secondary education is a critical element of financial and professional success. In 2020, only 21 percent of Plainfield High School (PHS) graduates attended a post-secondary institution. Offering a promise of tuition payment will encourage students to remain in PPSD schools and consider post-secondary education options.
Is The Queen City Promise unique?
QCP is modeled after successful promise programs around the country. It is the only 501 (c)(3) nonprofit promise program in Plainfield, and one of only a few in the State of New Jersey.
Why is the program available only for students who will enroll in New Jersey public institutions?
Historically, New Jersey has one of lowest retention rates in the country for high school graduates to remain in-state for their post-secondary education. Keeping our graduates in New Jersey schools encourages them to remain in New Jersey after graduation and contribute to our state’s economy. Post-secondary public institutions may include: colleges, universities, community colleges, and trade, vocational, and technical schools.
Will students who attend PPSD and transfer out of the system prior to graduation be eligible?
No. The program is available only to students who graduate from PPSD.
How is The Queen City Promise funded?
QCP is funded by individual donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation grants.
If QCP funding is not needed due to other academic scholarships, can the award be applied to room and board fees?
No. QCP funding is only available for tuition and mandatory fees.
Can students use QCP funding if they are eligible but cannot attend a post-secondary institution immediately after graduation?
Yes. Students have up to 10 years from the time of graduation from PHS or PAAAS to use the scholarship, and can start and stop at any time.
